What I'm Reading and Listening To

Finding Flow: The Psychology of Engagement with Everyday Life by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (Book)

I have a habit of reading obituaries and ordering books written by people who’ve recently passed away if the person’s life or work seems interesting. I stumbled on some great books that way, including this one when I read about Mihaly shortly after his passing in 2021. A former psychology professor at my alma mater, Mihaly coined the term “flow” in psychology to describe the flow state we get into when we’re locked in. It’s well worth a read. I couldn’t put it down.

Innovation Doesn’t Have To Be Disruptive by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne (Article)

I’m such a huge fan of the book Blue Ocean Strategy that I devour anything its two authors write. This article is a sneak peek into their upcoming book Beyond Disruption which I can’t wait to read next month and their new concept of non-disruptive creation. If you’re an entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur, I think their work is absolutely essential reading. Few people have influenced me more.

The Inside Story of ChatGPT’s Astonishing Potential by Greg Brockman (Ted Talk)

For my own sanity, I don’t even try to keep up with all of the AI news, but a friend shared this with me and it’s a great look into what’s to come from the co-founder of Open AI. I’m particularly interested in ChatGPT acting as an interface to other technologies and apps, where it can learn to make me more effective at the things I enjoy doing - think of it as a personal concierge. This is worth a watch.
