LifeLock Review 2020
Not to sound overly dramatic here – but the truth is, no one is truly safe from identity theft. In 2018 alone, the Federal Trade Commission received some 1.4 million reports concerning fraud!
Luckily, there are many things you can do yourself to protect your identity – like check your credit reports and bank statements for any suspicious transactions.
You should also make sure you keep your social security number, address, and other personal information secure. But this is not a complete solution because even if you take all of these steps, you can still become a victim of identity fraud.
This is where companies like LifeLock come into play. Even though they cannot guarantee your identity will not be stolen, they can help you big time should it get stolen. When your identity is stolen, every minute counts, and that’s where identity theft protection services come in handy.

Pros and Cons of LifeLock
LifeLock is one of the most popular and probably most comprehensive identity theft protection providers.
While it has many pros, there are few cons as well. We looked at them here to help you to see the full picture.
- Wide range of monitoring and alerts
- Dark web monitoring
- Trusted by over 5 million users
- 24/7 customer support
- User-friendly dashboard
- Mobile app for iOS and Android
- It is more expensive than alternatives
- No family offer
- No coverage for businesses
Is LifeLock worth it?
LifeLock is worth it if you have assets to protect or are in a vulnerable situation. While most of the monitoring can be done by yourself, not everyone has the time for this. LifeLock does not offer a family package, so it might not be the cheapest option for a family.
Can LifeLock be trusted?
Many people trust LifeLock, and even though they had some issues in the past, now they receive only positive feedback. They do not sell your personal information to third parties and work fast to restore any security issues.
What is better than LifeLock?
There are quite a few alternatives to LifeLock. We will look at a few options later in this article. To find out which one is the best for you, see how much protection you need and compare the pricing from a few different companies.
Alternatives to LifeLock
If you feel that LifeLock is not the right fit for you, there are many alternatives you can choose from. I’ve mentioned a couple below – and I’ve also previously talked about them in this post about the 5 best identity theft protection services:
IdentityIQ is a known name in the identity theft protection services market. They are quite similar to LifeLock, with their services being as comprehensive.
Besides three enhanced plans; Secure Plus, Secure Pro, and Secure Max, they also offer a basic plan called Secure. This plan includes dark web monitoring and 1 Bureau credit monitoring. The enhanced plans feature up to $1 million stolen funds reimbursement, identity restoration, and 3 Bureau credit reports and scores.
Their prices vary from $6.99 to $29.99 monthly.

IdentityGuard is another very popular identity theft protection service. It doesn’t offer all of the features that LifeLock does.
The biggest difference is that IdentityGuard does not have an identity restoration service. On the positive side, it offers good deals for families and couples, which LifeLock doesn’t have.
IdentityGuard also offers monthly credit reports. They have two plans – Total and Premier, both of them monitor the three credit bureaus, and Premier also monitors dark web.
Prices are similar – $19.99 to $24.99 a month.

Is LifeLock For You?
LifeLock is a great choice for identity protection. While they do not guarantee that your identity will not be stolen, they monitor your transactions and other activities and will notify you if there is something suspicious.
In case of theft, they will guide you through the process of identity restoration and reimburse your stolen funds. LifeLock is not the cheapest option, but it is a great choice for those with more assets to protect.
It might not be the best choice for families or couples since they do not offer special family packages as some other companies do.
