One of the best ways to sharpen your investing skills is by listening to investing podcasts. Personally, I’m a huge fan of podcasts. Launching my own podcast was one of the most rewarding steps in building Millennial Money.
If investing were easy, everyone would be a millionaire. But many people—even experienced traders—are playing a guessing game when it comes to where their money goes. As a result, they make bad choices more often than not.
Think of it like driving. It’s easy to get lost without the help of a GPS. There’s no shortage of resources and financial experts offering advice, but you have to know where to look.

Planet Money covers all sorts of topics and current events related to the economy. For example, some recent episodes include a discussion of the Robinhood scandal, solar energy, and an in-depth look at the fees convicts have to pay when they get out of prison.

So Money is hosted by Farnoosh Torabi, an award-winning financial strategist and bestselling author.

Investing Podcast Tips
As you can see, podcasts exist for just about every topic related to investing, financial news, and the economy. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to soak in this type of knowledge.
Even though many of the featured guests in the above podcasts tend to be famous, they all started out as regular people like yourself. As the saying goes: if you want to be successful, mimic success.
That said, it’s also important to remember that you’re on your own personal finance journey. Strategies that work wonders for someone else may not necessarily apply to you. But you can still learn from them. Take in as much advice as you can, but remember that you’re carving your own path in the financial world.
Here are some other things to keep in mind.
Be Skeptical about Everything
You might fall in love with a particular podcast, but that doesn’t mean you should convert your entire retirement fund into Bitcoin or Tesla stock if it makes that recommendation.
You and you alone are responsible for allocating your money so that it’s both safe from market volatility and in a position to grow over time.
No matter what a podcast says, keep learning as much as you can from a variety of reliable sources. Then, you’re going to have the confidence to make your own decisions that comes from knowing you have a sound investing strategy in place.
Have a Trusted Mentor on Standby
Take notes as you listen to financial podcasts and run some of the concepts by a trusted friend (who is good with money) or an unbiased advisor. This second opinion is critical when learning about potentially risky ideas, like investing in cryptocurrency, day trading, and options trading.
Apply What You Learn
Listening to a bunch of different financial podcasts can be an overwhelming experience. If you’re an amateur investor just starting out, you may find it difficult to know where to start. Or, you may get inundated with conflicting information.
Don’t get so overwhelmed with ideas and insights that you become too paralyzed to make any investment decisions. Form a simple strategy and stick with it. You can always adjust it, expand it, and correct your mistakes later.
Time is Money
Another great reason to listen to financial podcasts is that it pulls you away from other apps that waste your time—like social media platforms or whatever mobile game you’re playing.
If you’re like most people, you probably spend a lot of time on your phone. Embracing a money-first mindset means replacing pointless or irrelevant activities with money-making initiatives. Engaging with any of the podcasts discussed here is an easy way to do that.
