MyPoints is one of the original cashback and rewards-based shopping portals.
As a MyPoints member, you can earn up to 40% cash back when you shop at your favorite online retailers, like Amazon and Target.
You can also earn rewards for completing surveys, watching videos, and playing games—all of which I will cover in this post.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at what MyPoints has to offer so you can determine whether it makes sense to add it to your financial tool belt.
What is MyPoints?
MyPoints was initially founded in 1996 and was a pioneer in the online rewards and online shopping space at the time.
Fast-forward to 2016 and MyPoints was acquired for a cool $13 million by Prodege, which owns several other rewards-based shopping portals.
At the time, MyPoints had over 9 million registered members. The company is still going strong and is one of the leading online rewards portals.
MyPoints today is known as an online rewards site where you can earn points (which, surprisingly, are called “MyPoints”) when shopping online with the company’s partner merchants.
If you’re an avid survey taker who loves to shop online, why not give MyPoints a try? You’ll probably be able to earn some cash back from purchases that you’d be making anyway!
- Trustworthy Company
- Big Selection of Retailers
- Good Redemption Options
- Limited Customer Support
- Must Spend to Get Cash Back
How Does MyPoints Work?
For example, if you like to shop at Walmart, you can earn MyPoints for any purchase that you make on Walmart.com.
Keep in mind that to get credited with MyPoints, you’d have to visit Walmart.com through your MyPoints account.
You can also earn MyPoints by taking surveys, playing games, watching videos, and taking advantage of special offers in your account.
Once you’ve collected enough MyPoints, you can then redeem your points for free gift cards at your favorite retailer or for a prepaid Visa gift card that can be used to buy items wherever Visa is accepted.
If cash is what you’re looking for, MyPoints has got you covered there, too. They give the option to redeem your points as cash in your PayPal account. You can even exchange your MyPoints for United MileagePlus frequent flier miles.
Next, let’s take a look at the different ways you can earn points as a MyPoints member.
1. Earn Cashback for Online Shopping
MyPoints is connected with hundreds, if not thousands of online retailers. If you plan on shopping online, you might as well earn some MyPoints while you’re at it.
To earn cashback while shopping (in the form of MyPoints, that is), first do a quick search to see whether the retailer you’re planning to shop at is a member of the MyPoints network. If they are, go ahead and make your purchases through the retailer’s MyPoints link.
For example, if you need to buy flowers for your special someone, you can earn up to 1,500 points on qualifying purchases at ProFlowers. If it’s time for a new car battery, you can earn two points for each dollar that you spend at AutoZone. You can even earn four points for each dollar that you spend on pet food at Petco.
It seems that MyPoints is linked with literally every online shop. If you can’t find the store through MyPoints, you might want to reconsider whether or not it’s a good idea to shop there.
2. Featured Offers
MyPoints has arranged special discounts with tons of different retailers and services. Check out their Featured Offers section to see what’s available. For example, I’m seeing that you can earn 5,000 points if you sign up to be an Uber Eats driver and 8,500 points if you sign up for Blue Apron.
You can even earn points for donating money to your favorite charity. For example, donations to the Sierra Club can amount to 8,500 points, and a $25 donation to the Alzheimer’s Association racks up 2,500 points. Pretty cool!
3. Coupon Codes
If you’re looking for the latest coupon codes, you’ll want to check out the MyPoints Coupon Code page. Again, there are hundreds if not thousands of special discounts available.
4. MyPoints Grocery Coupons
For all those that like to save money while grocery shopping, you can print out coupons from the MyPoints Grocery Coupon page, which is powered by Coupons.com.
You’ll earn two points for each coupon that you print and 25 points for each coupon you redeem in-store. Not bad!
5. MyPoints Surveys
If you’re into taking surveys, you’ll probably want to check out the MyPoints survey portal.
Similar to other online survey sites that I’ve reviewed, you’ll be able to earn points and gift cards in exchange for sharing your opinions about products and services.
6. MyPoints Videos
If you’re sitting around with nothing better to do, you can earn points by watching videos from MyPoints sponsors.
Sports, entertainment, politics, technology, and parenting are just a few of the video topics that you’ll be able to potentially make money from.
7. MyPoints Games
MyPoints members can earn points by playing online games. However, it appears that you have to spend money to play many of these games.
As such, you might not want to take this route if you’re actually looking to earn cash. At the same time, if you’re a gamer who’s used to spending money to play games, you might as well make a little money while you do so.
8. Travel Deals
MyPoints offers travel deals through the world’s leading online travel providers, like Orbitz, Hotels.com, and Expedia. If you have a trip coming up, you can compare prices across these different websites and earn points when you make your booking.
If you book through Orbitz, for example, you can earn up to five points for each dollar that you spend. You can also earn up to 12 points per dollar on Extended Stay America bookings and two points per dollar on a rental car reservation with Enterprise.
MyPoints, like most online rewards sites, is free to sign up for. There are no monthly or annual membership fees, either. To earn cashback, you do have to spend money at its partner online stores. However, you can also make money by watching videos and taking surveys—all without having to take out your wallet.
On the flipside, MyPoints earns a commission each time you shop through its affiliate links. The company also gets paid when you complete surveys, watch videos, and use their coupons.
It’s also worth noting that, in some cases, you can find better deals on your own than through MyPoints. So make sure to do your homework before making any big purchases.
It only takes about 30 seconds to sign up for a MyPoints account. First, visit this link, and then enter your name, email, and password. It’s that easy!
MyPoints Welcome Bonus
At the time of this writing, MyPoints is offering a pretty sweet welcome bonus.
New members can get either a $10 Amazon gift card or a $10 Visa gift card when they spend at least $20 at one of MyPoints’ partner merchants during the first month of membership.
Members will receive this bonus in the form of 1,750 MyPoints, which can be redeemed for the $10 bonus gift card. Keep in mind that only new members are eligible to receive the sign-up bonus.
MyPoints has an “Excellent” score on Trustpilot, where it boasts a 4.5-star rating with over 4,700 reviews.
As with InboxDollars (which Prodege also owns), there’s not much information on the MyPoints website about security.
They do use a secure website certificate, so that’s good news. The company also has a solid 4.1-star rating (out of 5) on SiteJabber.
With all this in mind, I think it’s probably safe to shop through MyPoints.
MyPoints offers a self-help customer support portal where you can find answers to the most common questions. Unfortunately, there is no phone support or live chat support available. They do offer a chatbot, though, but you might not have much luck getting help there.
If you really need to contact MyPoints, you’ll have to submit a request on their web form.
Pros and Cons
- A trustworthy company, as one of the original rewards websites that still appears to be running strong
- It’s free to sign up for and free to earn points by taking surveys and watching videos
- Huge selection of online retailers through which you can earn points/cashback
- Solid MyPoints redemption options in the form of gift cards from major brands or cash via PayPal
- In many cases, you have to spend money to get cashback, so you’re not actually getting ahead
- Limited customer support options
- Surveys and video earnings options (like with most survey sites) are probably not the best use of your time
Alternatives to MyPoints
Few companies have been around as long as MyPoints has, so there’s no apples-to-apples alternative, but here are a few others that we often recommend:

|Survey Junkie||$5 Sign-up Bonus||Sign Up|
|Inbox Dollars||$5 Sign-up Bonus||Sign Up|

Next, let’s answer some common questions I hear about MyPoints.
How Does MyPoints Work?
With MyPoints, you can earn points (called MyPoints) by shopping online at the retailers that MyPoints is partnered with.
You can also earn MyPoints by:
- Taking Surveys
- Watching Videos
- Playing Games
These MyPoints can then be redeemed for gift cards, frequent flier miles, or cash in your PayPal account.
How Do I Redeem My MyPoints?
To redeem your MyPoints for gift cards, click on All Rewards in your account dashboard. You’ll then be able to sort through the various gift card options available to you. Once you find the reward you want, click the Get Rewarded button to cash in your points for that reward.
According to the MyPoints help section, gift cards sent through postal mail typically take about two weeks to arrive, while eGift cards can take anywhere from three to ten business days to process.
You can easily redeem your MyPoints for PayPal cash on the Redemption page in your MyPoints account. However, you’ll first have to make sure that the name and email address that you’ve registered with MyPoints match exactly to your PayPal account. You’ll also need a verified PayPal account. Keep in mind that it can take up to five days for your MyPoints to transfer over to PayPal cash.
Are MyPoints Free?
No. MyPoints are not free. You might hear people say otherwise, but here’s why I consider those folks to be wrong. You either have to spend money to earn MyPoints or invest your time.
If you have to spend an hour taking surveys or watching videos to earn $5 worth MyPoints, that’s probably not the best use of your time.
What is BonusMail?
BonusMail is a points-earning option that MyPoints offers. If you take advantage of the service, you can earn MyPoints just for clicking and reading email ads that MyPoints sends you.
Is MyPoints Worth It?
If you’re an avid survey taker who loves to shop online, why not give MyPoints a try? You’ll probably be able to earn some cashback from purchases that you’d be making anyway. MyPoints is integrated with basically every online retailer, and it’s free to sign up for, so you don’t have anything to lose.
As for the other options? Only you know whether it makes sense to watch videos, take surveys, or read emails for small sums of money.
In any case, sign up here to start earning cash back on your purchase at participating retailers right away. Happy “MyPoints-ing!”
