Around this time every year, I start reflecting on how far I’ve come since 2010 when I was broke and living at home with my parents. I’m a big believer in reflecting and cultivating gratitude. It is scientifically proven that practicing gratitude makes you happier (it increases serotonin and the neuropathways in your brain). We all move so fast these days, that it so important to slow down and reflect on how far we’ve come.
To be honest, I was a wreck back then. I didn’t have any money or any direction. I regularly had panic attacks, where I literally felt like I was dying. I was literally paralyzed when I thought about the future. I had spent so many years doing the right thing, working hard, but I learned the hard lesson that nothing is guaranteed in life. No matter how hard you work or how smart you are, you won’t get anywhere unless you build a strategy and have a plan.
I knew there had to be a way out, so I started reading everything I could about personal finance and making money. During the fall of 2010, since I didn’t have a job, I was reading 3-4 books per week, including many of the best money books. To date, I’ve read over 350 personal finance and business books. It’s my passion.
I started building a strategy, a blueprint for making more money, and a path to financial independence. To be honest, I didn’t know what would happen or how long it would take for me to make enough money where work would be optional. I just knew I needed a solid plan or nothing was going to happen.
Creating Financial Freedom
One of the most common questions I get from readers and podcasts listeners is “How did you reach financial independence at age 30?”
When I started off on my own saving and investing journey, I thought a lot about the end goal – reaching financial independence. But what I realized along the way is that with each “better” decision about money, I was creating financial freedom.[easy-tweet tweet=”Financial independence is the destination, financial freedom is the journey.” user=”millennialmoney” hashtags=”financialfreedom, money”]
Once I had a strategy and a plan, I took it one day at a time. I started tracking my net worth each morning using Personal Capital. I escaped living paycheck to paycheck. With every “better” money decision, I started to feel more confident, less stressed, and more in control. Once I had saved $10,000, my panic attacks started to come less frequently. I built better habits. My money started making more money. My investments started to grow.
With each decision, I was creating financial freedom. With each decision, I knew I was taking one step closer. Fast forward five years later, and I had saved over $1 million and a year later, reached financial independence at the age of 30. Since then I have been fortunate to share my story all over the world and get featured in over 50 international publications. While I sure had a bit of luck, most of what I did anyone can do. There is not some secret, but there is a strategy and a path.
For the first time ever I am releasing the whole strategy.
Millennial Money Course
While I have written extensively about my investing strategy and side hustles, I have never presented the entire strategy I used or the exact blueprint for how you can make more money and create financial freedom.
Unfortunately, the blog post format just doesn’t lend itself to presenting a comprehensive strategy (trust me I’ve tried a few times and once the draft of my “How to Reach Financial Independence” post reached 12,000 words, I determined it really needed to be a book which will be released by Penguin/Random House in Spring 2018).
Oh, and I built a video course with my podcast co-host and all around homie Matt, which I’m dropping on Thursday. Sign-up here for a beta-user discount code and early access.
To celebrate the launch of the course we’ve built a three video mini-course that I will be releasing over the next 3 days. I’m so stoked to release this course and start releasing more frequent videos. To get video updates subscribe to the new Millennial Money Youtube channel.
Over the past 6 months, I have spent hundreds of hours building the Millennial Money Course with Matt, which outlines literally everything you need to know about money in over 40+ videos to which we will continue to add frequently. These are the best ideas we have used in our own lives and the exact strategies I used to reach financial independence. We cover over 40 topics including investing, side hustling, saving, getting a raise, building a business, overcoming emotions, and more.
These are the best ideas we have used in our own lives and the exact strategies I used to reach financial independence. We cover over 100 topics including investing, side hustling, saving, getting a raise, building a business, overcoming emotions, and more. I’m pretty confident we’ve made one of the highest ROI courses on money ever made. What good is a course on money if it doesn’t make you money right? Well this one well. I guarantee it.
This is the exact course I wish I had in 2010 when I started my financial independence journey. We’ve done all the hard work for you and put together tips, strategies, and habits that actually work. The course also includes access to a private Facebook group moderated by me and Matt, where you can openly ask questions, set goals, and engage with other students. While I read every single reader email, I get over 300 a week, so I unfortunately don’t have time to respond to everyone. But in the course, we will be responding to every message.
We are here to help you.
Sign-up for Pre-launch Discount
If you are interested in the course, make sure you sign-up for the pre-launch discount. The course will be released on Thursday, but if you sign-up to this list, you will get exclusive lifetime access and beta discount pricing. The pre-sign up list will close soon once I port the domain over to the course, so this is your one opportunity to get access to the beta-pricing.
We are expecting a big response and will likely have to shut down sign-ups at some point to make sure everyone has a good experience. So if you are interested, sign-up here to get alerted when the course is open Thursday.
I’m so stoked to share it with you. See you inside. ?
