How to Make $300 a Day

As a born side hustler, I can tell you there are plenty of ways to make $300 a day (or more) – whether it’s through one full-time gig or multiple side hustles.

There are also earning activities that pay only pennies, and some outright scams to avoid.

I have found dozens of legit side hustles — sustainable ways (not just one-and-done gigs) that you can do to make money every single day. For most of these opportunities, there’s no college degree or special license required – anyone can get in the game. So, let’s get started!

11 Legitimate Ways to Make $300 a Day

1. Blogging

While you will need to put in a significant amount of work upfront, blogging can be an outstanding, incredibly lucrative way to make money.

You don’t need to be a published writer to get started, or even be an English major or have a background in communications. You just need to have the motivation to get started and the hardiness to stay the course. It can take several months for you to mint a lot of content (a couple of dozen articles or more) and start to pick up traction. (Gain web views and subscribers.)

Ideally, you should really like writing. A lot. And then you can pick a topic you’d like to write about. You don’t have to blog about your life (in a mommy diary-type confessional). You can blog about camping, pets, kids, sports, celebrity gossip, fashion, technology, cryptocurrency, or anything you’re passionate about.

Picking a topic you love will help you stay motivated and stick with it. Ideally, you should look for a topic that can also generate a lot of revenue. Lucrative blog topics commonly include technology, personal finance (making money, saving money, investing money), health and wellness, travel, cooking, or lifestyle.

There are many different ways you can monetize your blog, including:

  • Sponsored posts (articles or post content that brands pay you to publish)
  • Banner ads (i.e., Google AdSense, Adthrive, or Mediavine)
  • Product or service reviews (where you are given a free sample and also paid to write a review)
  • Sell downloadable assets (i.e., budget planners, infographics)
  • Sell eBooks. Aggregate your best blog articles and publish them in an eBook)
  • Direct affiliate programs. Get affiliate links to earn a commission when readers purchase products you recommend.
  • Affiliate networks. Similar to a direct affiliate program, but here you are not working directly with the brand. You join a network that connects you to thousands of merchants that will offer you a commission for recommending their products. The affiliate network takes a cut as their commission.

Overall, blogging is a fun, flexible, and highly scalable way to earn money.

It can take several months to a year before your blog starts to make any real money (i.e., at least a few hundred dollars a month). But as you grow your audience and you become more experienced, it is possible to make over $30K a month or even more from your blog.

I started out with just one blog myself, and over time it’s grown into a larger media company that includes multiple blog sites, YouTube channels, and podcasts.

2. Freelance Writing

Freelance writing, beyond blogging, is another outstanding way to earn at least $300 a day. The amount of money you can make as a freelance writer depends on your level of experience and portfolio of work. There are some freelance writers who make $2 or more per written word. Others may be paid by the hour or by the article, with different rates based on a short, medium, or long-form piece of content.

If you could write three short articles per day, each one for $100, you could reach your daily goal of $300.

You can be a total beginner at freelance writing when you get started. Your first task is to build up your portfolio with at least 5-6 different works and then to build connections. Reach out to friends and family and their broader circle.

Here are a few examples of ways to make money freelance writing.

  • Case studies
  • White papers (or whitepapers)
  • One-sheeters
  • Sales reports
  • Business presentation decks
  • Landing pages
  • eCommerce product descriptions
  • Email copy
  • Help or support articles
  • Other web page content
  • Social posts
  • Video scripts
  • Ad copy
  • Brand guidelines

Figure out the kind of writing that is most in demand that aligns with the kind of writing you want to do. Then, create some works to showcase your ability.

Starting your own blog can also be helpful as it’s another platform to put your content on display.

You’ll need to set your rates low as you get started, but as you build experience and your list of clients, you can increase your fees over time. Eventually, you can even hire writers yourself to help you grow your business.

3. Flipping Items Online

Flipping goods online is a truly lucrative side hustle. It’s perfect for people who enjoy the thrill of bargain hunting and finding an absolute steal.

There are many popular items that you can cheaply buy and then flip for a profit, from pots and pans to antique toys. The best things to flip are things that take up a lot of storage and can be easily shipped.

Designer clothes, small vintage goods, handbags, sports equipment, camping gear, and toys are popular items that resell well in used condition.

You can find used (or sometimes new) goods to flip for a profit at garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets, rummage sales, Craigslist, or on Facebook Marketplace. I regularly find designer or vintage items on Facebook Marketplace at a fraction of what they sell for on eBay, Etsy, Facebook buy-sell-trade groups (distinct from Marketplace), or in resale apps.

I’ve also found a number of free items listed on Facebook Marketplace. People value what they pay for. Items listed for free can often sit idle (people figure it’s not any good if it’s free) but when it’s listed at $20, they might consider it a steal.

Flipping Facebook finds is easy to do because it requires very little money — or even no money if you comb the app for free listings.

Earnings can vary wildly, but for beginners $500 a month within a few months isn’t unreasonable. There are some flippers who make $20,000 a month (roughly $667 a day) at this pursuit.

4. Start a YouTube channel

Creating a YouTube channel is an excellent way to earn extra money. Even if you have an active TikTok presence or successful blog, YouTube is worth your while as you can expand your presence and reach new audience members who prefer this video platform.

You don’t need to have any unique skills or talents to create a YouTube channel; just a willingness to create content. You could even create a video on how to boil water. (Seriously.) No matter how obvious a skill may seem to you, someone else wants to figure out how to do it or how to explain it to someone else.

Videos can get really elaborate, but it’s usually enough to turn on the video feature of your smartphone, find a room with good lighting, and record yourself.

A tripod can help you hold the camera steady — and there are many affordable accessories you can buy — but when just starting out you can just prop the phone against something stable.

Have a plan for the type of content you want to create. It should all have a similar theme, like unboxing videos, home repair, or reviewing digital products. You don’t want to flip-flop wildly from one video to the next about unrelated topics; your channel should be consistent.

You should also post at a regular cadence, be it twice a week or twice a month. Being steady is what wins out over time — with your resources (patience and interest level) and with YouTube search algorithms.

How to Make $300 a Day on YouTube

Once you start creating and publishing videos, there are a number of ways you can make money with YouTube.

  • Paid product or service reviews
  • YouTube in-video ads
  • Affiliate marketing (earn commission from product links)
  • Sponsors
  • Subscribers (i.e., you could send a co-branded email to subscribers with affiliate links)

Some YouTube channels make thousands or millions of dollars every year, and the lure of the platform isn’t going anywhere. YouTube is incredibly popular: 72% of all U.S. consumers have a YouTube account. While just under 40% of Baby Boomers are on YouTube, 73% to 96% of all younger cohorts have active YouTube accounts. The channel enjoys peak popularity with Zoomers.

YouTube is also great for passive income. Since past videos get continual daily views, they provide a steady income stream. You do the work — of creating the video — only once, but can continue to earn money indefinitely from ads and affiliate sales.

5. Podcasting

Like starting a YouTube channel, a podcast can be an excellent way to generate passive income. You produce the podcast content (episode) once but can earn money every time someone listens to it.

To start a podcast, you just need your smartphone. But you may want to purchase a microphone to improve audio quality. (You can purchase a high-quality, podcast microphone that’s easy to set up for as cheap as $30 on Amazon.)

You can talk about any topic that you enjoy or an area where you have some know-how. After recording your show, edit out extra noises or parts you don’t want (like all the “um” sounds or any stutters), and you can add music or other special effects.

It’s best to choose a quiet place with no background noise, but some editing will always be necessary. Choosing a location free of distractions will minimize the amount of editing you need to do.

When your podcast is ready, you can upload it for free to different platforms. Some of the best platforms to get started with include:

  • Apple Podcasts
  • Spotify
  • PodBean
  • Castbox
  • Stitcher
  • Google Podcasts
  • Pocket Casts

To make money from your podcasts, you can promote affiliate offers (unique promo codes or links so you can earn a commission) or through sponsors. Lyft, HelloFresh, thredUP, and Dollar Shave Club are four very common sponsors. If you listen to podcasts commonly, you have probably heard pitches for these brands.

Depending on the size of your audience (subscribers) or total listens, you can make a substantial amount of money.

6. Freelance Gig Work

Beyond blogging and freelance writing, there are many other freelance gigs that you can pick up to earn $300 a day.

There’s a huge array of different tasks you can complete, using your skills to make money.

For online gig work, it can take time to gain traction. You’ll need to set your rates low to attract customers and play around with your job listings (so buyers can find them based on their keyword search).

For offline work — usually performed at a buyer’s house — there is typically more than enough work available. You will almost certainly need to set your rates low until you get some reviews, but many taskers on TaskRabbit and similar sites can set rates at $20 – $75 per hour for furniture assembly, yard cleanup, and other tasks that people will gladly pay to offload.

Completing these freelance tasks is a flexible, and often fun, way to earn $300 a day. And as you build up your online business, you could eventually contract work out to other taskers or freelancers.

7. Set Up an eCommerce Shop

Setting up an online eCommerce business could be a good option for those who don’t want to spend several months plodding away at a blog or podcast trying to build up traction. It still takes time and energy to create a successful online shop, but the effort is generally a lot less.

To get started, you will need to decide what you want to sell. Look for popular items that you can sell at a healthy markup and that are easy to ship.

Dropshipping

When setting up an online shop, you may not necessarily need to purchase the inventory upfront.

With a dropshipping business, you don’t need to pay for goods (or store them either). You don’t pay for the inventory until the customer pays you (making a purchase). Then, you submit the order to your wholesaler or manufacturer and you provide your customer’s address for shipment.

You may already be familiar with AliExpress and Alibaba. But beyond these supplier sites, there are a number of other excellent dropshipping suppliers like:

  • Modalyst
  • Spocket
  • Wholesale2B
  • Sunrise Wholesale Merchandise

Using a dropshipping business model can help manage — or outright eliminate — several logistical challenges.

For some dropship suppliers, you do need to pay a monthly fee starting at $35 to $40 to use their platform — but this is a sum that’s usually affordable. And if you don’t have it,  you can readily make $40+ a month through babysitting or online surveys.  At $200,000 a year, you’ll far exceed $300 a day. ($200K a year works out to just under $548 a day.)

Amazon FBA

Similar to dropshipping, many sellers find success using the Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) program. You can acquire inventory for cheap — from sources like AliExpress, and then ship the product to an Amazon fulfillment center.

Amazon will handle processing the order — taking payment, shipping the order, and any customer service. In exchange, Amazon will keep 8% to 15% as its referral fee. There may be other selling fees involved, ranging from $0.99 per unit to $39.99 a month.

The fees are more, but the benefit of using Amazon is access to its gigantic global audience.

8. Investing

You might not have the training of a Wall Street banker or access to a CPF (Certified Financial Planner) or RIA (Registered Investment Advisor), but there are many micro-investment apps that let everyday people build wealth through investing.

Popular investments include:

  • Stocks and dividends
  • Bonds
  • Mutual funds
  • ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds)
  • Real estate (including commercial assets)
  • Cryptocurrency

There are many fintech apps that offer a number of investment choices. With most of these apps, there is a generous sign-up bonus to motivate you to join — commonly ranging from $20 to $120. Additionally, new users are often given a free stock or free trade as a new-member bonus.

While your traditional bank account sees less than 1% in annual interest, investments can see annual returns of 7% to 10%.

While 7% to 10% might not seem like much, consider the following.

If you invested $1,200 a year ($100 a month) and saw a 7% annual return of interest, at the end of 10 years you would have $17,740.32. By earning interest off your interest — compound interest — your money would make you $5,740.32.

By contrast, if you put the same funds in a bank savings account with a 1% annual interest rate (which would be on the very high side), you would have $12,680.20 at the end of 10 years. You would have made only $680.20 in interest — more than $5,000 less than what an investment account would have grown to.

INVESTMENT AND INSURANCE PRODUCTS ARE: NOT A DEPOSIT • NOT FDIC INSURED • NO BANK GUARANTEE • MAY LOSE VALUE

9. Virtual Assistant

With people increasingly working from home — and finding themselves busier than ever, there is a major demand for virtual assistants.

Virtual assistants complete many of the same tasks an office administrative assistant, secretary, or personal assistant might do. And depending on your skills, you could make $10 to $50 an hour – or even more.

To work as a virtual assistant, there isn’t a special degree or certification that you need. But common requirements or skills that employers look for may include:

  • Fast, accurate typing skills
  • Professional phone demeanor
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent follow-through
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Proficient in common office software and communication programs

Virtual assistant work is flexible in terms of location, but you may be required to work certain core hours that align with when your boss conducts business.

You probably won’t start out making $50 an hour. But as you build your experience and your client roster, you’ll inch closer and closer. You don’t need to lock yourself into just one client. Many virtual assistants have several clients whom they assist.

10. Rent Out Your Belongings

Admit it. Tucked away at the back of your garage or in a spare room closet, you’ve probably got plenty of stuff you’re not using (enough). Why not cash in on these belongings by renting them out to other people who just need them for a one-time event?

You’ll make more money renting than if you tried to sell them on Poshmark or Facebook. And these might be goods that you will use again — you just don’t use them that frequently.

Think about things you don’t use a lot of that other people need. Maybe you have an extra car that you barely drive. Some cars can rent for as much as $200 a day, especially if you have a cargo van, pickup truck, or other in-demand vehicle.

Beyond automobiles, other goods you can rent include:

  • Baby gear (strollers, cribs, high chairs, etc.) — perfect for grandparents who have baby gear at their house that only gets used 2-3x a year when the grandkids visit
  • RV or motorhome
  • Trailers
  • Dinner hosting or party supplies
  • Sports equipment
  • Camping gear
  • Drones
  • Cameras and accessories (tripods, lenses, etc.)
  • Pet supplies (beds, pet gates, etc.)
  • Musical instruments
  • Gardening supplies
  • Spare bedroom or closet (rent out your extra square footage as storage)

There are many popular apps and platforms you can use to list and rent out your gear. Neighbor (the Airbnb of extra storage space), SpotHero (rent out your parking space), Fat Llama, Idle – Rent Anything, or Loanables are some great options to check out.

11. Make Deliveries

If you’ve got a car, bike, or scooter, then you could make up to $300 a day — or more — for dropping off dinner to hungry diners in your town.

You can deliver on your own schedule, and pick up as many hours as you want. Lunch and dinner hours are when there is high demand, but you can work any hours you’d like to as long as there are orders coming in.

You do need to be age 18 or older to work for a food delivery app. Some apps even set a minimum delivery age of 19 or 21.

Popular delivery apps to check out include:

  • Uber Eats
  • DoorDash
  • Grubhub
  • GoPuff
  • Drizly

With any of these food delivery apps, you can cash out your earnings daily. Finding a gig that you can complete and cash out for within the same day is always helpful (but not always common). For many other gigs, you need to wait a few days to a couple of weeks in order to get paid.

While you probably will not be able to make $300 a day every day, it is possible to break the $300 figure. You can even watch YouTube challenge videos of food delivery drivers who make more than $500 within a day.

To reach $300+ in earnings you’ll need to rely on peak or surge pay incentives, work the best local markets, and pounce on special events that can drive up demand.

And on more “normal” delivery days, most drivers can clear $100 to $200.
